How To Find Your Passion
Contents
Passion causes us to take risks. It gives us the energy to become as creative as we were meat to be. It gives us drive and vision for a better future. It truly inspires us to drive forward when times get tough. And enjoy the best times. And everything in between.
I believe that no one has ever done anything truly great without being passionate about what they are doing.
But how do we find our passion so that we can reap the benefits I mentioned above?
So that we can live lives of purpose, which goes hand in hand with passion?
Well below I talk to you about how to find your passion so that you can live the life of your dreams. Allowing you to tap into your purpose, the reason you are on this earth.
Enjoy my friends.
What Is Passion?
Personally, I think passion is something that you lose yourself in. That you would fight for it and lose sleep for. Something that almost gives you super human strength and energy when you are engaging in it. Something that makes you feel as if you simply found what you are “here” for. That your journey to on this earth means something. Something that you do that makes you feel a deep sense of purpose and almost act out as if you had been blessed by a higher power to act out this passion. And when you do so, you feel a sense of duty and mission to do so over and over.
The dictionary defines passion as:
- Strong and barely controllable emotion
- A strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something
This is a great way to describe it. It is almost as if we can’t contain it once it shows itself. An emotion that we feel so strongly that we have to act it out. I feel as if it is something that we cannot fake or try to create.
It is more so an emotion and feeling that is already in us that we tap into. And anything less than it is simply not our passion showing itself.
You know you are truly passionate about something when you literally forget to do things like eat, go to the bathroom or time itself. Your passion takes over and transcends time and worldly desires. It is something you can work tirelessly on because passion gives you energy instead of takes it away.
It allows us to see our approach to things in life as a marathon instead of just a quick race. In it for the long haul, not just a quick fix. Seeing the big picture instead of only parts of it.
Passion can be found early and life or later in life and anywhere in between. Below are tips that you can use to help you find your passion. No matter what stage of life you are currently at.
Enjoy my good friends.
How To Find My Passion (YOURS)
First off before we get started, a lot of us have told ourselves that we can’t make money with our passion. That there just isn’t any money in it. Well this is bullshit. My friends this is just our mind trying to scare us out of venturing into the unknown. There is always money to be made. A need to be filled.
So let go of your limiting beliefs for good and move into a more abundant mindset where nothing is impossible. If only for the time being of this article.
Below are some of the best tips around that will help you find what your passionate about.
What Gives You Energy?
We have all been on a job where we feel tired the entire time we are there. As the clock nears closer to the end of our shift, we feel ourselves coming alive. This is a shit feeling that unfortunately most of us have felt day in and day out for years.
But what thing or things in your life have given you energy while you do them? What things in life have you done that you feel as if you can do so for hours. Or that you have actually lost yourself in for hours or even days at a time? That doing so doesn’t deplete you of energy, but actually revitalizes you?
Examine your life and find the thing or things that have done this for you. In the midst of doing this, you may just stumble upon your passion or life purpose.
Often times we bring a sense of perfection to things in life. Because we want to get them right otherwise we don’t feel as if we gave it our all. Passions can be found it activities in which you bring a perfectionist approach to.
What Do You NEED
I know we don’t truly need anything but the essentials. Food, water, air. But what do you feel as if you truly need? Now in order to find this out, we need to get rid of other peoples needs. The needs that we may have buried ourselves under. Also the need for other peoples approval. Generally family and friends.
Often times we do things in life because we want to make the other people in our life proud. Or that we want the money instead of chasing our passion. Or simply because we need to pay the bills.
I get it. But in order to find your passion, we need to step out of this self. So I want to envision a world where money is not even currency. That you don’t have to pay for anything. Also a world where everyone approves of you no matter what you do.
What would you do if this is the case? What would you do for free essentially since money isn’t an option. And that everyone is going to love you no matter what.
Think about this and meditate on it for as long as you need to. This can give you the answer you have been looking for.
When Were Your Being Your TRUE Self?
Often times your passion can be found where you truly don’t care about what people think about you. You can act wack or silly and still enjoy yourself. You simply are being yourself.
What were you doing at times where you felt completely at ease and completely free? Or you felt as if you didn’t care what people thought? A time where you felt truly as if you were being yourself.
This can help you locate your passions. Because passion reflects our true self back to us.
Think about this one with your heart. As your head will give you false answers or won’t let you come up with the real times you were being yourself. Use your heart to find your calling.
What Were You Willing To SUCK At?
Or something in life that you were willing to totally suck at? Or willing to be bad in order to become good at. That you didn’t throw in the towel right away because you weren’t a natural. You were willing to stick around and fight and become great? What one or more areas of your life did this ever happen to you in? You may find your passion when you think about these experiences.
What Subjects Do You Like To Read About
Even if you just like to read the comics in the newspaper (If anyone even reads those anymore!) You can find your passion in what you are willing to spend your free time in through reading. No one reads what they don’t like unless they have to, or they are trying to get out of their comfort zone. But when we read when we want to do so, it is usually something we truly enjoy.
Whatever subject you enjoy volunteerily reading about can lead you straight to your passion.
Also, what are the movies that you like to watch? Are they horror movies or superhero movies? Mystery movies or romance movies?
Also take a look at the things you like to spend your money most on. There can be a reoccurring theme with what you love to buy the most. Where you may be able to find one or more of your passions.
What Subject Would You Teach?
Teachers are givers, they are giving their heart and their knowledge to their students. The best teachers are those who truly do teach from the heart. If you had one subject you were going to teach, what would it be? The subject you land upon can lead you to what you are passionate about. It doesn’t have to be a cliche “history” or “math” answer. Dig deeper. And again, remember that you can make money in literally anything. Whatever subject comes to mind can lead you to a career of your dreams.
What Do You Talk About The Most With Friends and Family
After the small talk, we all tend to center around the same certain topics. Especially with the ones we love and know the best.
We feel comfortable sharing our opinions. Even relish in stating them to our family and friends who oppose to make them flustered!
But next time you are in a group and are getting passionate about what you are talking about, take notice to what it is. There usually is a central theme of things that you circle back to and can lead you to something your passionate about.
Ask Friends & Family
Friends and family can come in pretty clutch here. Often times we see people in others that they don’t even see. Have you had that experience when you tell someone how great they are at “said thing” and they respond almost shocked or at least they didn’t really see it themselves?
It is cool to see that happen. Because they feel good about themselves and so do you.
Well the same thing can happen for you. Ask people around you what they think you are good at. Often times the answer may either shock you, or remind you of the things you love to do. And/or are good at.
What Would You Suffer For?
Passion is said to derive from the Latin word which means to suffer which equates to if you love something, you will suffer for it.
What things in life would you suffer for? Or even lay down your life for? Those things can show you what you truly and wholeheartedly care enough for and are passionate about.
What Would You Do For People For Free
We can find our passion in giving to others. Giving ourselves, our time, our money. It is something we deeply believe in. If you were financially free, where would you give your time? It may take a while to think about the answer. Because the mind can’t easily conceive of abundance without practice. But think about it until you find the answer.
Often times, the places we would give ourselves to for free hides our passion. We discover it there
It Doesn’t Have To Be A Job or Career
This one is last but maybe should have been first. The thing about finding our passion is that it is so ingrained in our culture that it should be a job or career. It can be an absolutely is attainable if you choose to do so. But living out your passion doesn’t need to make you money.
If you have a passion for children, you can create a non-profit for kids in your neighborhood. Funding fun projects and outings for them. Just as an example.
But usually what happens is that the universe rewards you living out your passion. And some way, some how, you never go without when pursuing it. Usually a lot more than money than just getting by.
So again, don’t put so much emphasis on it HAVING to be a career. Or that you are failing because you are not getting paid for your passion. Seek it, find it and then live it. No matter what you make off of it, or what people say.
What are the causes you would fight for? Even lay your life down for? Thinking deeply on this one.
Also, don’t just thinking about finding your passionate as a end all be all. You can have many passions as well as develop new ones on your journey.
Don’t put some much emphasis and energy into finding JUST ONE. Be open to spreading your energy over multiple passions.
What Do You Do When You Procrastinate
We have all been there, we can’t stop procrastinating on things we need to get done. Well what if you could find your passion during these moments of “wasting time”?
What do you enjoy doing when you procrastinate? What are the top 3 things you do to get out of having to do the things you HAVE to do?
This could lead you to finding things you are passionate about.
