How To Become Fit FOR GOOD
FIRST THINGS FIRST (Slow & Steady) – MENTAL FITNESS
So becoming physically fit is one thing. But becoming mentally fit is another.
When people lose weight TOO fast, they literally still have an image of a fat person. They still feel and think like they are overweight. So that is why people SNAP back and end up gaining all the weight back after losing it too fast.
That is why you need to make sure that you are losing weight slowly. One pound a week is a very good goal.
This may seem incredibly slow. But at the end of the day, you will see better long term results of keeping the weight off.
This will also make it easier on your mind and body. You will really feel a lot better. And be in a mental and physical state that supports weight loss. You will feel more positive and see a long term vision for your journey.
If you lose it too quick, you will feel like garage the whole time. And when you feel like garbage, you don’t make decisions that are beneficial to your long term goal. I promise that the likliehood of you going on a binge from crash dieting is very very high.
So again friend, focus on losing one pound a week. It too time for you to become unfit. It will take time to become fit. But if you do this, you can lose 50 pounds in a year! If you have that much to lose. That’s a lot of weight.
Why Do You Want To Get Fit?
When it comes to getting fit, I always ask my clients, WHY do you want to get fit. And if they give me an answer like “Because I want to look good for summer”. Or “I want to look good for my reunion”. I instantly tell them to dig deeper.
Their is weight loss and then there is being fit. You can lose a bunch of weight, but if you do it wrong or too fast, you are going to lose a lot of muscle. And lean muscle makes you look way more fit.
If try to lose weight too quick, your body is going to try it’s best to retain fat. It feels as if it is being starved. And goes into starvation mode.
That is why it is best to take a long term approach to being and becoming fit. And sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It is not a quick solution. But if you do take a long term approach to this, YOU will STAY fit. And that is what I want for you the most.
Dig deep my friend. Why do you really want to be fit? What will really mean the most to you about this journey. What will it mean to you to get that perfect body.
Think deeper than just the surface answers. An example of this would be that you want to get and stay fit because of the fact that you want to focus on preventative health. So that you aren’t paying later in the form of money and even your life. If you let your body go through not staying fit in this life.
Define “Fit”
I was listening to a Tony Robbins seminar. And he talked about how our minds are servo-mechanisms. Like that seen in a bomb. We give it a target, and then our minds starts seeing and doing everything possible to help us reach our goal.
But when we are too vague with our goal setting, we get lame results.
You can set a goal to lose weight. Then you lose a pound. OK you are done. You lose weight and you got your goal.
Are we still on the same page?
You need to be absolutely specific when setting your goals.
You need to state exactly how much weight you intend to lose, and when. You need to have clear action steps on how you are going to reach your goal. And you need to have a measurable goal in which you take action on EVERY single day.
If you need help on exactly how to set and accomplish goals, check out this article I wrote just for you.
Resource: How To Set And Accomplish Goals
Set an end date for when you want to lose X pounds. And then chunk it down. When we have a big goal and it seems too big, we may not even start. Or we will take small steps when it comes to trying to attain it.
And what happens when you take small steps? You get small results.
And what does this do to your belief level about dieting success? It is very low. So which you take less action because you don’t believe it is possible.
That is why you need to have daily and weekly goals. So you just keep sticking to those goals. If you do this, you get some wins right out of the gate. Still without looking at the big picture too much.
And what happens then? Your level of belief goes through the roof. And then you take bigger and more effective action. You believe in your vision and you start to get momentum. And once you gain momentum, well, an object in motion tends to stay in motion, right?
That is the power of defining what you want then making a plan on how you are going to get it.
Don’t Listen To The Hype
Fad diets, crash diets and people selling programs that promise you losing 30 pounds of fat in 3 weeks. These people drive me NUTS! Don’t ever pay them any attention. They are just trying to SELL you something.
Are we on the same page here?
These people know what they are selling is just a temporary solution. At very best. And at worse, the diet will try to starve you. Or their magic pill will do nothing. You would literally get better results from taking a placebo pill.
So when it comes to how to get fit, I want you to pay no mind at all to these crash diets and schemes.
You are now BUILDING a better body. And that is done by creating a solid foundation which the rest will be built upon.
I mean you wouldn’t move into a home if you knew the foundation was thrown down in 2 hours. That it wasn’t even checked to see if it was level. And then they started building upon it before the concrete was even dry. Right?
The same is true with your body. You want to prime your foundation for epic success when you really start to build. Building me obviously lifting weights, doing cardio, eating better and as I touched upon above, becoming mentally fit. Which I will also talk about more below.
Get Accountability
I was reading the book Think and Grow Rich. It talks about how when one gains accountability, you can virtually guarantee your success.
There is something about having to answer to someone. That you confess to them your goals and dreams. And then commit to them that you are going to make it happen.
And when you see that person, you don’t want to walk up to them with your tail between your legs.
You want to straight up to them and tell them the good news. That you have been on top of your game. Eating right, exercising and doing all it takes to reach your new goal of becoming fit.
Eat Right (Food Prep)
There are so many different hormone disruptors in food and drinks today. We need to start swaying away from the big mainstream brands.
Eating more organic, grass fed and grain free meat. Eating local produce. And cooking foods meals at home.
These acts will ensure that you are feeding your body with solid foods.
Food that is not empty. Food that will be soaked up by your body efficiently. Forcing you to actually eat less.
After you have started buying better foods, it is time to cook it up! Which is where pre-preparing your meals comes in. This act alone can act as an accountability partner in a sense.
As when you get home and see your food prepped, you will not have an excuse to just go out and go get fast food. It will also make you guilty, in the most positive sense. As if you don’t eat it, you will waste the food. Hence wasting money that you spend your precious and limited time earning.
Take A Probiotic
There is an awesome article put out by Healthline that talks about how people who are normal weight actually have different gut bacteria then those that are overweight.
The article even went as far talking about how they transplanted gut bacteria from obese mice to lean mice. And the lean mice actually started getting fat.
The article talked about studies which show that certain strains from the Lactobacillus family, a common strain found in good probiotic supplements, is shown to help you lose weight and belly fat.
Regardless of whether it does or not though, you are helping your gut function better by taking a probiotic. And the gut is considered your second brain. Which is where many of your neurotransmitters are firing.
A better gut health means that you will feel better emotionally. And when you are in good emotional states, you are less likely to engage in self destructive behavior.
Gym Time
Now this won’t be a big piece, because at the end of the day, you know you need to be in the gym. Or at least putting in physical work in order to sculpt your body into becoming very fit.
So you need to be in the gym. This will be a great place for you to be surrounded by other people. Other winners. Putting in work on the same goal that you have.
It gives you great accountability in a sense. Which is huge for accomplishing your goals, like I talked about above.
It also gives you a sense of comradery. A place where you can fit in. Which is a need for all human beings.
But even more importantly, the more you are hitting the gym, the more you feel a sense of empowerment and mastery.
These two dynamics are something every single person needs in at least one area of their lives.
Lastly, it will be a place where you can really find zen. Because working out brings peace to ones body. It is physically exercising out emotions. Not just exercising your body.
Working out really is a spiritually experience as much as it is a physical experience.
Your mind is concentrated on the muscles you are working. This is a form of mindful meditation.
Your breathing is also at an excellent rate. Providing ample oxygen to your cells to where your mind is readily active.
As you can see, working out is a lot more than just working out your body. You are essentially tapping into dynamics of the physical and spiritual needs of the human psyche.
Becoming Mentally Fit = Lifetime Of Being Fit
Becoming mentally fit will virtually guarantee long lasting and sustainable results. That is why it is so imperative to really lock in on the mental side.
I want to encourage you to pick up a couple of the habits below that can really help you become more mentally fit:
Meditation – The key to dieting success is to win over your mental chatter. Thoughts and feelings trying to sabotage your success. Meditation quiets the mind. It can be very beneficial when you are hungry and want to quiet things down with.

Positive Audio
The date shows that most people really learn better from listening rather than reading. But when it comes to listening to audio, you want to begin trading out listening to music. And instead turn on motivational speakers and lectures. You want to prime your mind for success.
The more you listen to positive material, the more you will start to create a stronger mind. And you will create a fertile subconscious mind. In which you can plant in it seeds of success.
The stronger you can become in your mind, the better. You will be less likely to fall off the diet and exercise routine if you start to master your mind.
Let Go of Limiting Beliefs
Limiting beliefs around fitness are things like:
- I am just big boned.
- No one has ever been fit in my family.
- This is just my body type, I can’t help it.
- I don’t look like a fit person.
- I simply just gain it back whenever I lose it.
We have all told ourselves some form of these limiting beliefs. The key is to see them as BELIEFS. They are YOUR beliefs. And at the end of the day, you chose to believe them at one point in your life.
But because YOU choose to believe them, you can choose to UNBELIEVE them.
You have that power.
Here is a guide for you that I think can be helpful for you if you struggle with limiting beliefs (you are not alone)

Realize The Past ISN’T You
From this day forward, the past has no reflection on your future. It doesn’t matter who or what you were or have done in the past. It doesn’t matter how many times you have failed. Where you came from. Or what stopped you from achieving success in the past.
Today, allow yourself to reborn.
Just because you made a mistake, doesn’t mean you are a mistake. Failure is an event, not a person as master motivational speaker would say.
Don’t let the past influence your today’s and tomorrow’s.
Deal??
You can achieve success. And I feel that you are entitled to all the great things that life has to offer. Including being fit and attaining your dream body.
Now you have to believe this. And then move forward today with a clean slate. Forgive yourself for the past. And allow yourself the greatest chances of success in the future because of it.

Visualize Your Goals
It is said that our thoughts are the mechanisms in which we create our world with. That everything that comes into our life has come there because we have seen it in our minds first.
I don’t know about EVERYTHING. But the more I read about visualization, the more I am convinced that it is something that the most powerful and successful people in the world do.
From sports stars to massive CEO’s and all successful people in between.
They seem to have this knack for seeing things in their head. And the more they do so, the more fast it comes into their existence.
If you find yourself not being able to get fit in the physical world. Try to see yourself as super fit in the mental world. Keep visualizing yourself. Over and over again. As the most fit you have ever been.
Doing this will alter your self image. Which like I talked about, we must start to do in order to create sustainable and even permanent weight loss.
The more you “see” yourself in this way. With your minds eye that is. The more you will really believe that you are that person.
And the more you believe it, the more action you will take that is conducive to getting your goal of becoming fit and healthy.

Rest
When it comes to getting fit and getting going with your health journey, it is easy to get on a roll with it. You can end up coming in pretty hot and getting pretty enthusiastic.
The thing about getting fit, as I talked about above is that it is really a long term lifestyle.
You want to integrate it into your existence so that you are not starting and stopping. Over and over.
Do you know what I mean?
So when it comes down to it, you want to hit it hard and then rest, Hit it hard then rest. Take a sustainable approach to this journey.
Work hard and then rest good. Try to clock in 7-8 hours of sleep. Getting fit and staying fit means that we need to take the necessary steps outside the gym and kitchen. Those two dynamics are undoubtedly crucial to be on point with.
But at the end of the day, if you are not giving your body what it needs to recover, it will be tough to sustain this journey long term.
And when we are not rested, we do things that will sabotage all the hard work we have put in. Like binge eat or drink liquor. Because we want to feel better.
As a big meal will put you in a place where you can breath better and feel better. Or liquor can cause irritability from lack of sleep, to subside. TEMPORARILY.
But you want to avoid getting to the place because it will only set you back.
The more solid rest you get, the better you will mentally feel. You will feel sharper. Make better choices. And recover faster and more efficiently. Getting you back to feeling great inside and outside the gym.
Conclusion to How To Get In Shape
Alright friend. That concludes our guide on how to get fit! And STAY fit which is even more of a good thing, right??
I hope you enjoy the article. And it provided you with a value from a different type of perspective.
We have been programmed to not attain long term success. Because of the fact that there is so much garbage out there about becoming fit.
And again, mentally we have been programmed to seek the path of least resistance.
But like Zig Ziglar says
“If you will be hard on yourself, life will be easy on you. But if you insist upon being easy on yourself, life is going to be very hard on you.” – Zig Ziglar
Remember to seek the path of most resistance often times. Especially with health and fitness. Make the hard choices that no one else is making.
It may not seem fair in the beginning. When you are eating your pre-cooked healthy meals and your buddies are out eating pizza and drinking.
It may take a little while to see your progress. And it can be frustrating when you are not really getting to where you want to be with your body as fast as you would like to be.
But like the Chinese bamboo tree. You water it for 5 years and you don’t see any growth. But at some point in the 6th year, it grows over 80 feet in a matter of weeks.
I am not saying it is going to take this long to ingrain the habits of a lifetime of being fit.
But I am saying that it is going to take work at first. Hard work. But the harder you work on it, the easier it will become.
You will get to a point where you are so good at making decisions that benefit you, your health and your happiness. Decisions that will just come naturally and effortlessly.
And you will look back at your journey with pride. Knowing you had what it took to create a fit body and mind. And you applied it over and over until it became the life you now live.
Let me know what you think about the article my friend. And if you have anything to add!
I would love to hear from you in the comment section below.
Peace,
Chris
