How To Listen To Your Intuition
Contents

“Intuition is the whisper of the soul.” – Jiddu Krishnamurti
The process of listening to your intuition and making that still small voice louder and louder and more clear all starts with making an intention that you want to do so.
So give yourself credit for already taking the first step towards the pursuit of how to listen to your intuition, and like Martin Luther King says:
“Take the first step in faith, you don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
The fact of the matter is, thus is life. Once we take the first step and just get in the water, we start to acclimate. We see that it wasn’t as bad as we thought it may be. Or we see it as just as bad or worse/harder than we thought. And yet now that we are in the water, why not try going all the way in?
The journey to becoming more intutive starts with the willingness and braveness to take that first step. And when I say braveness, I mean that it can be scary to trust in this unseen powerhouse of a force that we call intuition.
It is simply just in human nature to want to do it ourselves. To have all the answers. To be the GUY or GAL. And yet, with intuition, it is learning how to let go. And surrender our smaller selves over to the power of our big self. The almighty force that we all came from and will one day return to.
Learning how to listen to your intuition is the begging with the relationship with source of creation. And when we use it, we can learn to harness the power of creation, purity of thought, questions answered, growth mindset, and the power of trust.
We are seeking out guidance from our higher self that knows all. And when we do so, our life begins to flow. As this world is mostly water. We are mostly water. We start to flow like water. Flow with the stream of consciousness that is the universe. With all the wisdom, guidance, empathy, unconditional love and freedom that it is and can bring us when we partner with it. Instead of resisting it.
Now, lets you and I journey into this list of ways to listen to your intuition and reap the rewards and joy that come from it.
But before we jump into this topic, let me just encourage you now to simply let go of the fact that trust is weak. Or that it isn’t tough to let go and be guided. It is simply the self that you and I have that wants the best for us. Also, don’t worry about calling it anything if it doesn’t feel right for you.
I know if you are like me, in the past I may have had an aversion to believing that there was a higher power who wanted the best for me. Still have trouble with it today, since we are amongst friends, I will admit that!
Call it God if you want it, source, energy, but simply see it as the highest most truest form of yourself that is trying to help your lower self get on the same level. That is it. A knowingness that we were born with. Our god like power we have within us. That it is our inherent right to use, enjoy and reap the benefits from.
How to Listen To Your Intuition (25 Tips)
Trust Your First Instinct
It seems like the ladies are much better at this then the gents, just naturally. And yet no matter who you are, what gender, race or spiritual belief, it seems that a good majority of us tend to try to block out that first voice that is trying to give us answers.
We doubt it, be dismiss it, or simply suppress it. And yet, this first voice, call if a voice of reason, is coming straight from the gut. The faster “answers” or things come to us, the more accurate they will be.
The more we dismiss this and go with other answers or solutions that we come up with, the more it is likely that it is coming from our head. Our head knows logic.
Our head is simply a storage unit for all the things we have learned over the years. Many of them are limiting beliefs that we are filtering our thoughts through.
Listen To Your Heart Over Your Head
Our conscious and subconscious mind is extremely powerful. It is required to set and accomplish your short and long term goals. It can help us become more calm through mediation.
As well as reinforce and affirm good thinking habits that can help us build more value in ourselves, to feel and be worthy of the accomplishment of our goals and dreams.
And yet, just like with anyone or anything, we all have our strengths and weakness. The weakness of our minds comes to the fact that it gets in the way of listening to your heart. You and I cut off our source to the almighty force of intuition when we get stuck in our head.
Our heart knows our deepest desires. It knows what we want to do, be and become. What we truly love and need. As well as it is our beacon and guiding light to the things that will fulfill us both short term and long term.
It is connected intimately to our intuition. The two go hand in hand.
So when it comes to listening to our gut and intuition, it is imperative that we essentially start “thinking with your heart”. The ego is located in our minds. It provides us with ego thoughts and answers. Things that will fulfill our smaller self. The one that is obsessed with vanity.
The things that may feel good now, but now later. The things that bring us short term fulfillment and yet sometimes long term pain. Or at least joy that is fleeting.
So when you want to go with a gut decision, and truly listen to your intuition, you can start from verifying or checking in with your heart. Does the decision or choice feel right in your heart?
Maybe you had a gut instinct that told you something was off. Then you go to your head for facts and information to try to logically figure our what is going on and happening.
We can get stuck up there if we don’t jump back below the neck. The heart will let you know what to do.
Make Sure Your Choices Feel Right
Before you make a choice or decision or go about handling something that you have been having trouble with, check in to make sure the way you are going to handle it feels right. Essentially, when it feels uneasy or uncomfortable. That is a block your intuition is putting up to stop you from going forward with your decision.
Essentially, when you are listening to your gut, you operate with a feeling of smoothness. There is no overthinking. There is no hesitation. It just feels “right”.
It you and I are making a decision in your life, and it doesn’t feel right, lets again check in with our heart. This will put you and I back on the right track.
Ignore The Voice That Second Guesses The Intuition
There has always been one or many more of those times in our lives when we go back on our first choice. We say “nah, that can’t be right”. Or something of the sorts. We essentially dismiss our intuition.
And the fact of the matter is, the more we do this, the more we are essentially subconsciously telling our intuition that we don’t trust it. And like with anything in life that doesn’t feel valued, the less and less it shows up or wants to be in our lives!
So when we think something, and feel as if we should dismiss our first inclination, we can remind ourselves that this act is what is blocking us from hearing our intuition.
Show Yourself That Your Intuition Has Helped You In The Past
I know I am a person that needs concrete facts, evidence that things exist, before I ever go all in on a belief.
And when it comes to how to listen to your intuition, you and I can go back in time and show ourselves when we trusted our gut. And of course the amazing results that came from it.
Or lack thereof. When our gut told us what we suspected, but instead we went against it and had the feeling that we “should have listened to our gut”.
This proof can allow you to let go and trust your intuition starting today. Seeing that it will not steer you wrong.
Use Your Body (Good Posture)
It is strange, but we actually “Do” emotions. We don’t just feel them. When we are sad, we move and use our body in a way that makes us feel sad. We are hunched over and we use our facial muscles in a way that evokes sadness.
Our body can give us clues into what is right and what is wrong.
If you are trying to listen to your heart and intuition to guide you through something, monitor how your body is feeling when you are bringing up certain scenarios.
If your body feels agitated or “off”, that is your body reacted to your intuition not being happy.
If your body feels smooth and content, that is your intuition giving you the go ahead that you are about to make the right choice.
Meditation
If you and I really need to listen to our gut, and do so fast, the best way to still the mind is meditation. That way we get the logical part of the equation out of the way. Hence letting us “hear” our intuition better.
When it comes to how to still your mind, all you and I need to be doing is watching our breath. Feeling it coming in and out of our nostrils. You can also use a mantra like “Aum” and say it over and over. This is an anchor for your awareness, so that it doesn’t drift off with thoughts that come up. You simply just stick with the mantra and say it over and over for a few minutes.
This will be a good amount of time to quiet the noise upstairs, in your head, so you can hear the noise downstairs, in your intuition/gut.
Detach Yourself From The Situation
The fact of the matter is, when you and I are knee deep in a problem or something that is bothering us, it is hard to separate everything. We are trying to “figure it out”, worried about making the right choice, worried about what happens if we don’t make the right choice.
But if you and I can, we should be taking a quick 5 minute break from the whole entire situation, of us being in the middle of it.
And then look at it as if you are about to give guidance to your best friend about what to do. Essentially we would be coaching ourselves.
Act as if you have no part in the situation or scenario. you simply want to help your best friend get through something. And you have the best intentions and motives for this buddy.
What advice would you give your best friend, who is going through the same thing?
This advice is coming from your “heart” since you are trying to help someone you love. Which is unconditional love. And intuition and unconditional love are virtually one in the same.
Make A Fast Choice (From The Beginning)
There is an exercise Brian Tracy talks about on how when people are asked to list their top 3 goals within 30 seconds versus thinking about them for 30 minutes, the answers are virtually always exactly the same.
When you do things fast, on a dime, you aren’t thinking. And again, in order to listen to your intuition better, we need to to be getting out of our head.
Take a scenario you want to use your intuition for guidance in. And go back act as if you are at the beginning of the entire thing.
What fast decision or advice would you give to yourself, RIGHT AWAY? That is your intuition, right there. I promise.
Exercise or Create!
The fact of the matter is, when we workout, you and I really start moving that body. And like I was sharing with you above, we “do” emotions with our body.
When we put ourselves in a peak state, intuition and be expressed and translated through our bodies better.
We can also be doing art and painting, or expressing ourselves through writing music and poetry. Again it is all about getting our minds quiet enough.
All of these creative pursuits are essentially anchoring our thought process on one thing. A meditative activity to quiet that loud mind you and I have!
Take A Shower
Taking a shower has been shown to reduce our brainwave cycles to that of a deep meditation. This is when we are in a state of alpha brain waves. This is where solution creation is.
Haven’t you ever noticed that when you take a shower, you can just think better? You get more relaxed, and even feel brave enough to “win” arguments against the bullies of your life?? No shame, I do the same!
It is putting us in a more fearless state, transcending the crocodile brain, which is mere concerned about survival. And instead letting us get better access to the neocortex, which is our most evolved portion of the brain is. When properly activated, we can think better and the evolved part of our brain can connect better with the most evolved sense known to man, the gut and intuition.
You can also draw, write or paint. Doing things like this will allow you to ground yourself in the present moment as you are more focused on using your hand to create instead of stuck in your head.
This is another form of meditation that will help you access your intuition by getting quiet within yourself.
Test Your Decision With You Core Values
We all have values that when we violate them something feels off in our bodies. These are often referred to as core values.
When we go against them, we feel like we are going to regret that decision.
Pose a couple scenarios to your moral compass when trying to go with your gut. This is one of the the best ways on how listen to your intuition.
As when your integrity is compromised, you are not going with your gut decision. You are operating outside of this spiritual realm.
Let Go Of Intuition Blocks
Often times, this is called shadow work. Essentially we are letting go, forgiving and taking full responsibility for our lives.
What happened to us is not our fault, but it is our responsibility of what we are going to do and who we are going to become because of it.
Bad things may have happened to you, people may have done you and I very wrong. And yet in order to hear your intuition, we need to be getting the things out of the way that dull that little voice.
That stuff getting in the way are the heavy emotional anchors that we all carry around.
If you are like me and need a little extra help letting go, check this post out I wrote just for you:
How To Let Go Of Anything (Fast)
Let go of anything and everything that isn’t serving you. The feeling that you aren’t good enough, or that you and I don’t measure up. Or someone thought we wouldn’t make it in life.
The more we let go of what is NOT us, the more we can become who we truly are, who we already are. Pure love and joy. Our true nature knows no limitation. It knows no lack. It goes beyond even having high self esteem. It is pure consciousness.
And the more closely we get to this state of being, the louder our intuition becomes.
Bring up the things you have hidden, face them full on. Laugh in their face. Truly laugh at them and they will dissipate. If laughing at them doesn’t ease the pain, again go back to the article above on how to let go. It will allow you to achieve permanent peace and growth.
Value Honesty Over Feeling Good
It is a fact, we lie to ourselves to make ourselves feel OK in the moment. I have done it countless times!
Say you have a feeling that someone is cheating on you, but you simply say “no, that is just my mind playing tricks on me.” We need to be valuing complete authenticity with ourselves. Accepting that the world can be unkind, and at times we simply need to be facing the cold, hard truthes of life.
Intuition can come off as negative, or presenting the answer we don’t WANT to hear. But NEED to hear. That is why, me included, have definitely lied to myself at times when my intuition was trying to tell me the truth.
Allow your intuition to be what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. Allow it to speak to you as a coach would speak to a client.
Literally Communicate Your Desire To Your Gut
The fact of the matter is, your intuition WANTS to help you. It is there to be that guiding light in the dark. That beacon of hope.
By us simply telling our gut that we need our help, we are reaching out to our higher self for help. It takes humility and humbleness. Which we are putting ourselves in the space where ego can’t exist. Humility dissolves ego. And when ego is gone, we can hear our intuition better.
Give Up The Need For Control
This is also referred to as true surrender. When you and I surrender, we are again stepping out of our ego needs. We admit that we can’t do it alone. This is when the universe responds with action.
We can only take human steps, but God can take God like steps. This is where we can make big strides forward in hearing our intuition. Just stop resisting in your actual body.
You and I are trying to always get “there”. Resistance in our body will persist. And it is too strong of an emotion to hear your intuition better.
Let go of the need to control anything at all. Just completely give up and let go.
Put Yourself In A Peak State For Intuition
In the past, we all had a time in our lives where we had the answers just come to us. We weren’t asking ourselves how to listen to your intuition at this point because if was louder than ever.
How were you holding your body in that moment? What were you doing? Maybe you were laughing, or doing something you enjoyed, like a passion?
Try to recreate that specific scenario and your state of being when it happened.
This can trigger that intuition response and allow you to hear your intuition more right now.
Look For Serendipity
We have all been in a state of flow in our lives, where things seems to happen just right for us. Coincidences keep coming up.
This is our intuition speaking to us.
Look for coincidences in your day. These little clues can lead you to listening to your intuition more. And also give you proof that your spiritual side is working well!
Believe You Can Hear Your Intuition
The fact of the matter is, it is engrained in the human experience to feel as if we can’t do something, and yet everyone else can.
You know the feeling. When we try something, and we feel as if we can’t do it, because we are different, or was raised different or simply they have the “right stuff” and we don’t.
This is not true. We all deal with those thoughts from time to time. But it comes down to the power of belief. We need to believe with absolute certainty that we can and do have the ability to listen to our intuition, as good if not better than anyone that ever lived.
If not, you will keep doubting your intuitive abilities. You will never give yourself full permission to listen in on your intuitive thoughts.
Make the choice, right now, that you have what it takes to listen to your heart and gut.
Pay Attention To The Dream World
Often times, we can get tips for our intuition in our dreams. Try to remember your dreams. Get a dream notebook and write about your dreams as soon as you wake up.
The subconscious mind is very active and often times it is trying to share things with us that can lead us on the right path.
Also, your conscious mind, the one you can rationalize with, is out of the equation when you are dreaming. And the conscious mind is where the doubt in our intuition comes from. So we can really hone in on listening to our intuition through analyzation of our dreams.
Take 10 Minutes Per Day To Listen To Your Thoughts
Let’s face it, we spend most of our days trying to suppress our thoughts. Whether that be on social media, through music, through simply staying distracted through meaningless talk and text. We are running from our thoughts most the day.
And yet, if we simply stick with our thoughts for a bit of our day, we can start listening in. When you give yourself permission to listen, of course most our our thoughts will be directly from our ego mind. But we will often times be able to hear our intuition more clearly when we simply listen and become aware of our own thoughts.
Give yourself a ten minute break from your day each day, to where you simply just listen in on your thoughts. You will find answers, I promise.
Carry Yourself In Strong Way
We have all heard of power posing. You know, like putting our hands on our hips, or sticking your chest out like you are superman or wonder woman?
These types of poses have been proven to allow one to lower cortisol which is the stress hormone, and increase testosterone levels, in just 2 minutes.
Holding our body in more powerful positions will but you and I in a more courageous energetic field. It also lets our cerebral fluid flow better. Versus standing or sitting in a hunched like fashion.
This will open up our entire minds and bodies to hear our intuition better. We are essentially becoming a better channel for spirituality and guidance to occur.
Make Yourself The Only Thing That Matters
When it comes down to listening to your gut, we need to be completely focused on us. Our needs. Our desires. Not what will happen to others of how it will affect other people in our life if we do go ahead with making a certain decision.
Make yourself the only person that matters when trying to listen to your intuition. Because like on an airplane, the first thing they want you to do when the masks come down is to put your own on first. This will make sure that you are getting enough oxygen to help others that may need your help.
We can only help people when we are healthy and happy. Or at least we can bring our best version to people to help the world more optimally when we take care of ourselves first. As we can only give what we have. The more we listen to our intuition, the more we take care of ourselves. Hence having more value to bring to the world.
Take Action Immediately
Once you feel as if you are channeling into your inner voice, take action right away. The universe has a biased towards action. And action will show your inner voice that you trust it enough to act upon it immediately. Not to doubt it or second guess it.
Doing this will allow you and I to develop a better relationship with our inner voice so that it becomes more loud and clear.
Interrupt Your Patterns
Living a good morning routine and a good night routine can work wonders for helping us get more done in our lives. And yet when we get into too much of a routine for too long, we become a bit robotic.
Pattern interruption is used in sales in order to get the person out of a certain frame of mind and guide them to a different, and usually much more positive perspective.
Sometimes when we are living our same routines, it comes with listening and hearing the same thoughts over and over again.
We need to get off the map when this is going on. Introduce ourselves to an entirely different environment in order to foster new thoughts and new feelings in our body.
Getting out in nature, going to a lake or the beach can allow us to feel a bit more relaxed and more aware of our external and internal environments. More awareness is the ultimate answer to how to listening to your intuition.
Look For Twinges In Your Day
The word twinge is really the only way I know how to state the feeling that comes from the voice of our intuition.
It is almost as if certain parts of our body are twitching or being mildly shocked. Take notice of your thoughts when these twinges come up. Have a journal and jot down what you are thinking at that moment.
Go over, at the end of the day, these twinge triggers. This can show you what type of environments these intuition twinges come about in. As we are all creatures of habit, including the habit of certain places or scenarios in which we are vulnerable enough to let our intuition speak to us.
Hang Out With People Who Let You, Be You
The more we are around people that foster for us an environment to be ourselves, the more we will hear and be able to listen to our intuition.
As the more authentic we are, the more we are in line with our soul. Plain and simple. Let’s you and I make it a point to hang around people that are adding logs to our fire, instead of always trying to put it out.
Benefits Of Listen To Your Inner Voice
Just like adhering to a good coach, life changing things can happen to you and I when we begin to listen to our inner voice and intuition. Below are the 9 benefits of listening to your intuition that can literally save our life and help us become the best version of yourself.
#1 – Increase levels of creativity as you are tapping into a more powerful and unlimited source within you.
#2 – Knowing yourself better. Intuition is linked with the real you, the person you want to become and already are deep within. It will allow you to get to know your true self, and the more you do so, the more we will give ourselves freedom to evolve out of our false self and finally be our real self.
#3 – Making better decisions. Making decisions off intuition are purely the right way to go. You will make decisions in life that will put you on a path to your life unfolding in a more abundant way. One that is congruent with your life purpose and souls desires.

The more aligned we are with our life purpose, the more our soul can thrive. True thriving leaves all lower level emotions, like, apathy, grief, fear, lust, anger and pride. It brings you into a space of consciousness where you experiencing more pure and higher vibrating forms of experience in this life. Like courage, acceptance and peace. And even sometimes touching the ultimate, enlightenment and spiritual transcendence.
#5 – Stress level reduction. When you and I listen to our intuition more, we naturally find that it provides the right answers that we need. We can learn to trust the process more and let go. We are getting out of our minds and trusting more that everything happens for a reason.
# 6 – More life congruency. Trusting our gut instinct will allow us to align ourselves with our life purpose. It will help us attract better people, build better relationships, and feel like our life has more purpose. As the voice of intuition is the guiding source towards happiness and life congruency. It is the voice that can literally set us on the path to starting and continuing to go in the direction we are meant to go in. In every single area of our lives.
#7 – Goal Achievement will also come from listening to our intuition. I know that there were certain clients I worked with in my early days of real estate to which I knew they weren’t the best clients to work with. They ended up being a real headache. If I would have listened to my intuition, maybe I could have found better clients to work with. That would have resulted in a better referral base because of it.
You will be able to accomplish your short and long term goals faster because that voice of intuition is connected the abundance source of life. The source that knows no lack. Hence it is the guiding light to a beautiful and plentiful life.
#8 – You will know what to say NO to. We can do anything in life, and yet we can’t do everything. The more we say NO to the wrong things, the more free time and headspace we have to devote to the things that matter most to us. As well as the people that matter most to us. Listening to your intuition will let you know what to say NO to. This will allow you to make choices that fulfill your souls desires.
#9 – More growth will take place. As your intuition wants you to become the most evolved and truest version of yourself. This voice will at times, get you out of your comfort zone and allow you to experience new things in life that will bring you more joy, growth, fulfillment and long lasting hope.
