Contents
Look you and I both know the feeling of waking up feeling like we didn’t even go to sleep at all? So knowing this big time fact, and when it comes to how to wake up with energy, how the heck do we do it!?
I’m glad you asked.
And before we get into it, you are one my page today, and this page is linked to a web of personal development articles.
So I want to definitely start off with a mindset tip when it comes to how to wake up motivated.
So that you are able to more so, hit the ground running. With excitement and anticipation.
Lets get going!
21 Ways To Wake Up Energized
Simple and Powerful Morning Routine
We have to be listening to motivating content. We are not going to wake up with good energy if we are tuning into negative news or jump right into social media or emails.
The fact of the matter is, most of what we see on our phones in the morning is going to cause stress and/or be negative.
So please, lets do ourselves a favor and resist the temptation to just naturally default to jumping on the news or social media/email.
Instead, what has helped me, and I feel can help you is doing a little meditation. As the benefits of meditation are incredible.
I find that with meditation in the morning, it allows me to really go deeper with my practice. My mind silences a lot faster than it would if I tried to do so mid-day. The mind is already quiet when we wake up, so it makes sense to build off of that positive momentum.
Then I make my bed. This gives me a feeling of accomplishment and is known to release dopamine, the reward hormone. That can give us a tad more energy.

Then, I listen to positive audio on the way to the gym. But if you aren’t hitting the gym in the morning, that is OK. You can simply lie in bed for ten minutes and listen to so motivational audios from youtube. Or a good audiobook.

Go To Sleep At The Same Time Each Night (And Wake Up At The Same Time)
There is power in routine. It can either work for you or against you. If our routines are us waking up and going to sleep at sporadic times, then our mind and body will follow suit.
There is a beautiful thing called a circadian rhythm. And when we lock it in with going to bed at the same time and waking up at the same time, our body is primed for wake up energized at this time, and get tired at the same time of night.
We can guarantee a certain amount of sleep if we do this. As we know what we will get tired at the same time each night, hence hitting the hay at a good time for optimal rest.
This honestly changed my life. I hated waking up early, but wanted to do so to get my day going. Get to the gym early so I could get to work and just have it done.
The first couple nights I had to take some melatonin to get to bed. But after that, I was able to go to sleep early and wake up early. Sleep at 9:30 wake up at 5:30. I feel better than every energy wise.
Use The Power of Gratitude
When you are thankful and grateful, you feel good. That is a known fact. You are focusing on abundance rather than lack.
And I believe, what you focus on expands. And because of the fact, we will most likely find much more to be grateful for if we are focusing on it.
And like energy attracts like energy, so we will attract more positive things and people into our lives.
But don’t believe me. Let’s check in with the science!
A great article talks about a study done in which giving gratitude triggers the release of hormones that provide positive regulation of our immune systems. It actually alters the way we see the world in a positive manner.
Due to the fact that it improves our health, it can provide us with more energy and vitality.
Hence we can use this in the morning to get a little boost!

Monitor Burnout
Burnout is definitely a real thing. Most people who experience burnout give up, as we all feel like it isn’t meant to be, then we are tempted to throw in the towel.
Also when it comes to just general life, burnout is something that can keep us feeling consistently tired. A feeling like we are never going to be energized anymore.
Then general rule I like to follow through with is simply to listen to my body.
We know us the best, so when it comes down to it, no one will really know when we need to take a load off more than ourselves.
Maybe it is time off from the gym. Or off of work. Or even off of everything.
The fact of the matter is, sometimes we need to check out. Do it when you feel the need to. Otherwise we will fight feelings of fatigue over and over.
Sure working out can be both physically and emotionally gratifying, but when you really let go and take time off, I believe it is best if we just do nothing at all.
It will allow our central nervous system to right itself. As well as micro injuries in our bodies to heal. To come back stronger.
Find activities that bring you peace, and/or are known to bring you peace and engage in them for a day or more straight.

Power Breathe
Lets face it, out breathing pace is very slow at night. Our heart rate isn’t beating as fast. We just generally need less oxygen when we are resting.
And yet when we wake up in the morning, we need as much as we can to really get going and feel alive and awake.
One of my favorite breathing exercises, that I think can help you have more energy in the morning is one were you are in a seated position.
As you breathe in, you push your fits us in the air, then as you exhale, you shoot your elbows back down.
You then proceed with 20 repetitions.
I like to do this for 3 sets of 20. Take about 30 seconds rest in between each set.
This will fill your blood stream with oxygen rich air and give you a nice boost in the morning.
Cold Shower/Water On Face
If you are brave enough, take a cold shower and/or throw cold water on your face.
The process doesn’t have to be long. Simple a 30 second to a minute cold shower.
I tell you what, for me, it is like having half a cup of coffee in my blood stream after I do so. I feel alive and invigorated.
I will confess I need to do this more consistently. And yet, it works really good to have more energy in the morning!
Use Your Bed Only For Sleeping
When it comes down to it, playing with our phone, using the computer, stretching, etc is great. But not when it comes to our sleep and getting the most restful nights sleep possible
So do those things in maybe a chair next to your bed. Or in the living room.
This will encourage your body to go directly to sleep when you get under those covers.
You can also utilize eye shades to create the most darkness, get blinds that block out the majority of the light coming into the room in the morning. Along with keep your room cool, around 65 degrees.
Eat (The Right) Breakfast
Of course, we have all heard it, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! I got tired of hearing it for a while, I heard it so much!
There is definitely some Harvard Science behind this claim.
To have energy in the morning, the best foods to eat are going to me your oatmeals, proteins in the form of greek yogurt and eggs, or even make a smoothie with fruit and wheat germ along with things like tofu and even some good healthy protein powder.

Use Blue Blocker Glasses At Night
You can snag a pair of these on Amazon Prime for 15 to 20 bucks. At night, if we are looking at our computer and phone we are exposing our eyes to blue light exposure. Blue light blockers can help our eyes and mind rest. As blue light suppresses the secretion of serotonin.
This includes blue light in your lights in your house too. Turn them off, have a little nightlight to do your reading and if you have to use electronics, make sure you are sporting those blue blockers!
Don’t Drink Fluids Before Bed
This will avoid us breaking out sleep patterns unnecessarily. Otherwise, we’ve all been in that position where we wake up to pee, lose the “tiredness” and are tossing and turning for the rest of the night!
No Snooze Button!
I know you hate more for this one, and yet hitting that snooze button can do more harm than good. That 8 minutes you get until the next snooze, can allow us to go back to sleep, but not go into a full sleep cycle, hence waking up groggy as the sleep cycle has been disrupted!
A little sleep hack that I use is to put the phone in the far corner of my room. That way, when my phone alarm goes off, it isn’t right where I can tap it and go back to sleep.
I have to get up in my cold room, and resentfully slam it off LOL.
That way when we are up, might as well stay up.
If you have to lay in bed, instead do some visualizing of being energetic and achieving the goals you want to achieve that day.
Drink Coffee Wisely
I know if you are like me, the first thing we do is think about getting to that cup of coffee as fast as possible! First thing’s first!
A great article talks about how we should time our coffee when our cortisol levels are at its lowest. As this will give us the most efficiency out of the caffeine in our blood stream.
Lemon Water In The Morning
This does two very positive things for more energy in the morning. First off, lemon can boost the feel good hormone serotonin, allowing us to feel more optimistic and positive.
Also, drinking more water can rehydrate us, as at night we are all dried out from lack of fluids all night.
It can also break down phlegm in our throat allowing us to breathe better, and help overall immune function.
So keep a Yeti full of it right next to your bed. So when you wake up in the morning, instead of hitting the snooze button, you do a full send of a nice tall yeti of lemon water.
Essential Oils
I mean this won’t be like putting caffeine into your blood stream. Although it can help us wake up with energy. The best essential oils for energy include:
Some of the best essential oils for energy include:
- Spearmint
- Peppermint
- Sweet Orange
- Lemon
- Rosemary
Sunlight In The Morning
Basking in the sunlight can not only feel great, it can also produce melatonin in your body. If you can, sit out in the sun a bit before it gets dark to encourage your melatonin levels to be high when going to sleep. As adequate levels of melatonin are crucial to good sleep.
Have a A Good Nighttime Routine
It is one thing to go to bed at the same time, as this is what will set our circadian rhythm nicely. It also helps us immensely to have a go to routine that we do each night that lets our minds and bodies know that it is getting near time to go to bed.
Nighttime rituals if you will, that prime your body for good sleep.
Maybe you can read a good book, meditate, take a shower or bath, have tea or pray. No matter what it is, it is essentially something we do religiously each night that winds us down. Instead of just trying to jump right into bed after going 100 miles and hour, and try to sink into dreamland ASAP.

Scents For Morning Energy
I know that this is far reaching, and yet desperate times call for desperate measures. My good friends at Entrepreneur talks about scents in the morning that can boost our moods and productivity.
Those scents include:
- Lavender
- Lemon
- Cinammon
- Peppermint
- Jasmine
- Rosemary
These scents all have qualities that help with concentration and focus, boost energy, stimulate thinking, and even have depression fighting qualities.
It’s worth a shot right?
Banana In The Morning For Energy
An apple a day may keep the doctor away. And yet an banana in the morning will keep that morning fatigue away!
They are packed with potassium and they have enough fiber in them to slow down sugar release into our bloodstreams. They also provide us with a healthy dose of B vitamin and magnesium to help our mood.
Avoid Super High Carb and Sugar Meals in the Morning
We don’t want to crash after our high. Sure these meals can make us feel better right off the bat, but the benefits are only short lived.
When we eat high sugar and carb meals, the crash can take us out for the rest of the day. Making us feel groggy and unmotivated.
Have Goals and Vacations To Look Forward To
My favorite thing to do is have a list of goals going all the time. Of course it can change and transform as time goes by.
But when there is hope in the future, there is energy and power in the present. Enjoy the moment of course, and yet always have something exciting in front of you that you are chasing.

Address Stresses In Your Life
The fact of the matter is, if we are feeling tired and stressed, we may not be sleeping good because we are burnt out on things that we are doing in our lives.
We may need to switch careers that allows us to express ourselves more fully. As doing something we don’t like to do, day in and day out, is soul draining. And it is impossible to have enough energy if we are in a career that is doing this to us.
Maybe it is time to see a therapist to get past issues and let go of the past.
Or simply have talks with people that we need to forgive. Right forgiveness notes. Simply mastering our emotions can help us wake up with more energy and have more sustainable energy as we are now carrying around a lighter load.
